Encode text to Base64 or decode Base64 to readable UTF-8 online for free. Convert strings, Unicode characters, and emojis using standard Base64 or Base64URL directly in your browser.
01 / CHOOSE A MODE
Text uses UTF-8. Base64URL replaces + and / with - and _ and omits padding; it is not URL encoding. In line mode, each non-empty line is decoded independently and blank lines stay in place.
02 / YOUR TEXT
Encoding and decoding happen in your browser. Your text is not uploaded, tracked or stored.
How it works
Choose the supported file from your device.
Use the available settings for the result you need.
Save the completed file directly to your device.
Choose Encode or Decode, select Standard Base64 or Base64URL, and enter your text or encoded string. Click the conversion button or enable Live Mode for automatic results. Copy the output, swap input and output, or clear the workspace.
Convert text to Base64 and back without installing software. Supports UTF-8 text, including Urdu, Arabic, and emoji, with Standard Base64 and Base64URL options, Live Mode, input swapping, and copyable results. Invalid encoded input is checked rather than silently treated as valid text.
Base64 text conversion runs locally in your browser. Input text is not sent to Nimzoa's application servers for encoding or decoding. Website analytics are separate from the text being converted.
Yes. Text is encoded as UTF-8 bytes before Base64 conversion, so Unicode text survives a valid round trip.
Invalid characters, padding or non-canonical padding bits produce a clear error rather than a changed result.
This tool is for text. It rejects Base64 bytes that do not form valid UTF-8; use a binary-file tool for non-text data.
Yes. Standard spaces and line breaks are ignored during decoding; the encoded content is still strictly validated.
No. Encoding and decoding happen locally in your browser, and input values are not uploaded or stored.
No. Base64 is an encoding method, not encryption. It changes how data is represented but does not protect it with a secret key. Anyone with the encoded value can generally decode it.
Standard Base64 uses + and / characters and often includes = padding. Base64URL uses - and _ instead and commonly omits padding, making the encoded representation more suitable for URL-related applications.
Select Decode, choose the matching Base64 format, paste the encoded string, and run the conversion. The tool displays readable text when the decoded bytes represent valid UTF-8.
Base64 can represent binary data, but Nimzoa's current Base64 Encoder / Decoder is designed for UTF-8 text. It is not a dedicated image, PDF, or binary file decoder.
Need to decode a Base64 string or convert text into Base64? Nimzoa's free online Base64 decoder and encoder lets you perform both operations directly in your browser.
You can decode Base64 to readable UTF-8 text, encode text to Base64, and switch between Standard Base64 and Base64URL. The tool supports Unicode text, including Arabic, Urdu, and emoji, and offers Live Mode, input swapping, and one-click copying.
No software installation or account is required.
Base64 decoding converts an encoded string back into its original data. Nimzoa's decoder displays the result as UTF-8 text.
Select Decode.
Choose Standard Base64 or Base64URL, depending on your input.
Paste your encoded string into the text field.
Click the decode button, or enable Live Mode for automatic conversion.
Read and copy the decoded text.
For example:
Base64 Input | Decoded Text |
|---|---|
SGVsbG8= | Hello |
Tmltem9h | Nimzoa |
SGVsbG8gV29ybGQh | Hello World! |
The decoder expects valid Base64 data representing UTF-8 text. Not every Base64 string contains readable text.
Base64 encoding represents data using a set of printable ASCII characters. It is often used when text or binary data needs to be carried through systems that expect text-compatible values.
To encode text with Nimzoa:
Select Encode.
Choose your preferred Base64 format.
Type or paste the text you want to convert.
Run the conversion or enable Live Mode.
Copy the encoded result.
For example, encoding Hello using Standard Base64 produces SGVsbG8=.
You can also encode longer strings, punctuation, and supported Unicode characters.
A common developer task is converting a string to Base64 or decoding a Base64 string back into text.
Nimzoa supports both directions in the same workspace:
Text to Base64: Encode a readable UTF-8 string.
Base64 to text: Decode an encoded string into readable UTF-8.
String to Base64: Convert text values into Base64 representation.
Base64 to string: Recover the original text when the encoded data is valid UTF-8.
Use Swap Input and Output to move the result back into the input field when you want to perform a reverse conversion.
For example, you can encode a message and then decode the result to confirm that it returns the original text.
Base64 is a data-encoding method that represents binary information using 64 basic characters: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, digits, and two additional symbols.
Standard Base64 uses A–Z, a–z, 0–9, + and /. The = character is used for padding where required.
Base64 is useful because encoded output can be represented as ordinary text characters.
Common applications include certain data-transfer formats, email content encoding, and encoded values in software systems.
Base64 is encoding, not encryption. Anyone who has the encoded data can generally decode it without a secret key.
Do not use Base64 alone to protect passwords, confidential messages, or other sensitive information.
Nimzoa supports both Standard Base64 and Base64URL.
Base64URL is a variation designed to use characters that are more convenient in URLs and related contexts.
Feature | Standard Base64 | Base64URL |
|---|---|---|
Main alphabet | Letters and digits | Letters and digits |
Additional characters | + and / | - and _ |
Padding | Often uses = | Commonly omits = |
Typical context | General data encoding | URL-safe encoded values |
For example, Standard Base64 may include +, / or = characters that have special meanings in some URL contexts.
Base64URL substitutes the first two characters and commonly removes trailing padding.
Base64URL is not the same as URL percent-encoding. If you need to encode URL query parameters or special URL characters, use a dedicated URL Encoder / Decoder instead.
To decode Base64URL:
Choose Decode.
Select Base64URL from the format dropdown.
Paste the Base64URL string.
Run the decoder.
Copy the resulting UTF-8 text.
Base64URL appears in some web authentication and data-transfer formats.
However, decoding a Base64URL value does not verify its authenticity, signature, or security. For example, decoding part of a JSON Web Token does not validate the token.
Nimzoa's Base64 converter works with UTF-8 text, including characters outside the English alphabet.
UTF-8 is a character encoding that represents Unicode text as bytes. Base64 then converts those bytes into printable characters.
This distinction matters because Unicode characters may require more than one byte.
For example, Arabic text, Urdu text, and emoji can be encoded into Base64 and decoded back into readable text when the correct UTF-8 conversion is used.
You can test a round trip with:
Hello Nimzoa
السلام علیکم
Hello 🌍
Encode the text, swap the result into the input, switch to Decode, and check that the original text is restored.
Standard Base64 often uses one or two = characters at the end of an encoded string.
Padding helps complete the representation when the original byte count does not divide evenly into three-byte groups.
Examples:
Original Text | Standard Base64 |
|---|---|
M | TQ== |
Ma | TWE= |
Man | TWFu |
Some formats, including many Base64URL applications, omit padding.
When decoding, select the format that matches the source data. Incorrect or malformed padding can cause validation errors.
A Base64 decoder may reject input that is not valid for the selected format.
Common causes include:
Characters outside the supported Base64 alphabet
Incorrect padding
Truncated or incomplete encoded text
Mixing Standard Base64 with Base64URL
Encoded bytes that do not represent valid UTF-8 text
If decoding fails, first confirm the format and check whether the string was copied completely.
Do not assume that every encoded value is readable text. Some Base64 values represent images, compressed data, encrypted bytes, or other binary content.
Nimzoa's current Base64 tool is intended for text conversion rather than general binary-file decoding.
Some Base64 data is displayed across multiple lines for readability or transport.
Nimzoa includes a line-processing option that can decode non-empty lines independently while preserving blank lines.
This is useful when you have multiple separately encoded text values.
It is different from decoding one long Base64 value that has merely been wrapped across lines. Choose the mode appropriate to the structure of your input.
Base64 is commonly used in software development and data handling.
Examples include:
Text-compatible data transfer: Representing byte data in formats that require text-compatible characters.
Development and debugging: Inspecting or converting encoded text values during testing.
API workflows: Working with Base64-encoded fields where a service explicitly requires them.
URL-safe values: Using Base64URL when an application requires URL-safe encoded data.
Unicode text conversion: Encoding UTF-8 text into Base64 and recovering it later.
Remember that Base64 increases the size of encoded data by approximately one-third before any surrounding formatting. It is not a compression method.
Base64 does not provide confidentiality, encryption, authentication, or tamper protection.
A Base64 string can usually be decoded by anyone who receives it.
Although some systems use Base64 to represent credentials or other sensitive values, the encoding itself does not protect them.
Avoid sharing sensitive Base64 values publicly. Use proper encryption and secure transport where confidentiality is required.
Nimzoa performs the supported Base64 text conversion locally in your browser.
Your input text is not uploaded to Nimzoa's application servers for encoding or decoding.
The tool does not require an account, and you can copy results directly from the page.
Website analytics are separate from the text being converted.
Use the converter above to decode Base64 into readable UTF-8 text or encode text into Standard Base64 or Base64URL.
Choose the format, paste your input, run the conversion, and copy the result.
