Estimate annual and partial-year asset depreciation, track book value and export a currency-aware schedule—all locally in your browser.
01 / ASSET INFORMATION
Cost and salvage use your selected currency. Salvage cannot exceed purchase cost.
02 / DEPRECIATION METHOD
Depreciation is limited to the depreciable cost and the selected salvage floor.
The date labels calendar periods; enter first-year months explicitly. Full Year uses 12 months. Partial years use the entered months first, then full 12-month periods and a final remaining-month period. This is a planning convention, not country-specific tax advice.

04 / DEPRECIATION CHART
Horizontal axis: fraction of original cost or depreciable amount · vertical axis: period. Exact values appear in the schedule table.
05 / ANNUAL SCHEDULE
Amounts are rounded in USD minor units using cumulative book values; displayed expenses, accumulated depreciation and closing values reconcile. A straight-line switch or final balancing adjustment is identified in the notes.
| Year / Period | Opening book value | Depreciation expense | Accumulated depreciation | Closing book value | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Period 1 · 12 months | $10,000.00 | $1,800.00 | $1,800.00 | $8,200.00 | — |
| Period 2 · 12 months | $8,200.00 | $1,800.00 | $3,600.00 | $6,400.00 | — |
| Period 3 · 12 months | $6,400.00 | $1,800.00 | $5,400.00 | $4,600.00 | — |
| Period 4 · 12 months | $4,600.00 | $1,800.00 | $7,200.00 | $2,800.00 | — |
| Period 5 · 12 months | $2,800.00 | $1,800.00 | $9,000.00 | $1,000.00 | — |

06 / METHOD COMPARISON
The same cost, salvage, currency and partial-period convention apply to every method. The selected straight-line switch applies to declining variants. No method is universally best.
Depreciation is an estimate using the stated service-month convention, not an automatic tax calculation. All inputs and calculations remain in your browser.
Add purchase cost, residual value, useful life and a display currency.
Select straight-line, declining balance or SYD, and set a full or explicit partial first year.
Check annual versus accumulated depreciation, compare methods and export the reconciled CSV schedule.
Enter cost, salvage value and useful life. Choose a method, optional first-year months and a currency. Calculate, inspect the annual schedule and chart, compare methods, then copy or download CSV.
Reconciled annual book values, 150% and 200% declining-balance presets, custom rate, optional straight-line switch, SYD, partial-year periods and a browser-only CSV export.
Asset values and depreciation schedules are calculated locally in your browser. No inputs are uploaded or saved. Methods are estimates, not jurisdiction-specific tax advice.
Subtract salvage value from cost, divide by useful life and apply the fraction of a year in each period. The schedule stops at salvage value.
The preset multiplier is divided by useful life to obtain an annual rate on opening book value. Double declining is the same 200% preset. A custom option instead uses the entered annual percentage directly.
Not necessarily. Without the optional straight-line switch, declining balance may finish above salvage, and the tool does not insert a hidden final write-down. The switch uses straight-line for remaining service life when that gives more permissible depreciation.
Months in Service prorates the first period. Complete 12-month periods follow, and any remaining months appear separately at the end. SYD weights are spread across elapsed service months. The optional in-service date labels periods but does not infer the entered month count.
The calculator carries precise internal balances and rounds cumulative book values in the chosen currency's minor units. Each displayed expense equals the change between displayed opening and closing values, so the schedule reconciles.
Copy the entire schedule or download a UTF-8 CSV. Calculations run only in your browser. The month convention and method comparison are planning estimates; they do not automatically match every country's accounting or tax rules.
